A friend and fan of epark spotted this in this month's Putney & Barnes Time & Leisure and we thought it ought to be shared with our online tennis community.
The All Star Youth Tennis Scholarship Trust (ASYTS) was set up in Spain in 2006. The inspiration for the Trust came in the form of Sebastian Wray, a devotee to Wandsworth Tennis Centre, who, having been spotted playing by a Spanish semi-professional and coach, was put forward for a placement at a Spanish Tennis Academy. In 2008, he became the first beneficiary of the Trust and studied at a Tennis Academy in Barcelona.
This is seen by the Trust as the first of many one-off grants to young people who have shown promise and dedication to tennis, giving them an opportunity they may not have had otherwise to develop a career in tennis, whether as a playing professional or a coach. It is also hoped that those young people will return to Wandsworth Tennis Centre on a regular basis, to pass on what they have learnt to other young people in Wandsworth.
