Tennis is not expensive. At least not in Hornchurch where it is now FREE!!

Created the 26th April 2010

Hylands Community Amateur Sports Club recently celebrated receiving the prestigious Beacon Status for best practice from the Tennis Foundation. Not content with this achievement, the Hornchurch based tennis club, aims to punch above its weight by joining forces with a local Civic Society, the Hylands Park Action Group (HPAG), in Hylands Park and by supplying its own young tennis leaders to the newly launched Youth Park Club Ambassador initiative.

Club Administrator Giorgio Bugnatelli said: “We have been liaising with the HPAG since its inception five years ago and when we heard of their intention to involve young people in volunteering, it seemed logical that we should support this initiative.”

HPAG’s Hon. Secretary, Audrey Francis, said: “We are delighted to be associated with the tennis club in Hylands Park. We have received constant support from their Committee and we are delighted knowing that the young people involved with this initiative are thoroughly trained by this very pro-active and exemplary Club-Mark accredited facility.

The Youth Park Club Ambassadors will man the tennis courts during the week after school and for the Sunday Family Fun play when the courts will be made available free of charge to the local community. They will volunteer one hour of their time and be paid for the second hour.

They will also promote not only free tennis but other activities in the park while collating useful information from all park users through the use of questionnaires as part of our local consultation exercise.”

Club Administrator Giorgio Bugnatelli said: “Most of the general press we read about young people seems to depict them in a negative manner. We beg to differ and we are very determined to invest in our young tennis leaders. Each member of our young team is trained in all four modules of the LTA Tennis Leader Awards, including Planning, Communication and Organisation. Once their training is completed, they also commit an agreed number of hours to volunteering. This allows us to offer some Free tennis at Hylands Park on Sunday afternoons”
