French Open Fantastica!

Created the 01st June 2010

The French Open is now on its 10th day with the Women’s final on Saturday 5th June and the Men’s the following day.

There’s been plenty of action so far with Andy Murray being defeated in the fourth round to Tomas Berdych but not after a riveting five-set win over Richard Gasquet who he so memorably overcame in 5 sets in fading light at the Wimbledon 2008 Championships.

So why is the French Open so impressive?

The Roland Garros French Open is the second of the Grand Slam Tournaments on the annual tennis calendar. It’s known as the greatest clay court Tennis Tournament in the world, and arguably the most specialist surface to play on. Clay is a lot slower to play on and favours the more consistent players such as Rafael Nadal as the rally’s are a lot longer.

Rafael Nadal has won the tournament four times in the men’s single section and this year’s he is also odds on favourite, the king of clay seems to be unbeatable. Nadal has been building a great reputation for playing best on clay as he is one of the most consistent players and referred to as the man with clay feet!
